Alright I can remember James Bond most familiarly in the Nintendo 64 game - 007 Goldeneye.
Not only was that game awesome for the time, it was my favorite game. I find it alittle funny how we incorporated the book into a movie then a video game. I find this funny because thinking back to all the topics we surfed in ENGL 110 and my love for the game, I realize they took all the sex, violence, politics, and ethics behind the plot of James bond and sold it to children who knew nothing else besides James Bond kicked a$&. I bring this topic up because I was interested in not only how adults and women were involved, but how children and the younger generation were involved as well. So I pose this question, why do you suppose they predicted this video game to be a major success, especially knowing younger children would play it?
I feel the image and message behind James Bond has completely shifted and mutated into someeting completely outside the original. He has shifted from all the politics and norms of the original to appeal to the younger generation. Video games, hot actors and actresses, fancy gadgets, and more action i.e. more sex, violence, and video games. I'm not bashing it, I'm only making the connection. Times have changed and so has this James Bond genre. I firmly feel James Bond no longer fits into a genre, instead I belive he has become a genre. When one firsts sees Austin Powers, he/she thinks, "He's sort of James Bond-ish". I believe because of the impact in the 60's, all other spy cliches or stereotypes are based on JAMES BOND. Just a thought, whatdo you think.

I think they predicted that it was going to be such a major success because it was one of the first shooter games made for the N64. The game was also well done and there were so many characters to choose from. Once again, Odd Job was the main man! There were also so many levels to play on and the variety of weapons was unbelievable. Even as new shooter games are being made for the newest consoles such as the XBOX 360, 007 Goldeneye remains my favorite of any shooter game.
For those of you who never had a chance to play 007 Goldeneye for the N64, here is a small trailer.
