"Richard Kelly's knockout debut—an aptly schizoid time capsule of apocalyptic teen anxieties, scored to a loving mix tape of period pop—remains the most potent Reagan-child rebel yell to date."
In a twisted way Donnie Darko is a biography of an everyday high schooler growing up in the 80s. He smokes, drinks, and enjoys girls just like any other high school student. His family life is relatively normal too. His parents worry about him and he gives them a hard time for it. He has an older sister who he fights with and a younger sister that he gets to and from school. There is just one problem with Donnie Darko and that is that he is a scitzophrenic. He has these vivid dreams where a terrifying rabbit tells him what to do. While DOnnie is under control fo this rabbit he commits terrible crimes. He also believes that time travel is possible and has trouble deciphering what is and is not real while reading this book.
the reason Donnie darko captures the essence of Reagans addministration is because he stands for everything that the administration is against. He has a dirty mouth, drinks, smokes, and has a downright hate for all authority. Every single one of his outbursts are always against authority figures never his peers. Therefore he is a hero in the class room instead of being seen as a twisted freak.

I love this movie! I think the main character did a great job posing as a schizophrenic kid. I knew a kid who was schizophrenic and some of the behavior in the film reminded me of him. The story keeps me interested still because the way that the countdown to the end of Donnie's world is structured so that you can pick up what might happen later in the story. Frank, the bunny, was a twisted character as well. At first I expected this to be a scary story, but the outline and chain of events turn out to be really interesting once you see the whole thing. I love the part when Donnie busts the speaker from his school for weird pornography or whatever he had in his house. When he stood up to his therapist and that public speaker I wanted to give him a high-five. Donnie Darko was a really witty and sarcastic kid and the love story behind all of this was really pretty.
